Dear Friends,

I hope you are having a fantastic week and energizing your cells by giving your body a key nutrient we don’t get much of from diet alone.

I’m talking about Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), and more specifically the active form of this nutrient (called ubiquinol) that is found in every cell of our bodies. Here are the two primary functions of CoQ10 in our cells:

First, it is an essential component in the production of energy within the cell mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells. While CoQ10 doesn't provide an immediate energy rush like caffeine, it fuels the proper functioning of our heart, brain, muscles, and other vital organs, much like gasoline powers a car's engine.

Secondly, CoQ10 is a crucial part of our body's antioxidant defense system, helping to protect cells from oxidative stress that can cause premature aging. It is one of the few antioxidants that can function within the fatty parts of cell membranes, complementing the role of vitamin E.

As the years go by, our bodies' ability to produce CoQ10 declines, and as I mentioned, we obtain very little from our diets. This is where supplementation becomes essential.

However, not all CoQ10 supplements are created equal. Over 90% of the CoQ10 our bodies utilize is in the active form called ubiquinol, while most supplements on the market contain the oxidized form, ubiquinone.

Our bodies can convert ubiquinone to ubiquinol, but this conversion process becomes less efficient after the age of 30. This is why we recommend taking a supplement with ubiquinol, the active form of CoQ10, for those over age 30.

As a supplement ingredient, ubiquinol is challenging to make and keep stable outside the body. We believe the best ubiquinol is from Kaneka Corporation, a Japanese company that now makes ubiquinol here in the USA (outside of Houston, TX).

Their ubiquinol is called Kaneka QH and is made using a proprietary natural yeast fermentation process that results in a premium quality and pure ubiquinol for supplements.

At NatureCity, we take this a step further with our TrueCoQ10 products. We use Kaneka QH® ubiquinol, combined with a stabilization technology that includes antioxidants like alpha-lipoic acid and fatty acids to ensure the ubiquinol remains active until the expiration date (you don’t want your ubiquinol to oxidize into ubiquinone while in the bottle).

Better yet, this formulation has been shown to be 4.3 times more effective at increasing ubiquinol levels in the blood compared to the regular ubiquinone (the oxidized form) found in many supplements.

How much TrueCoQ10 should you take?

To maintain optimal CoQ10 levels, Dr. Robert Barry, Head of Scientific Affairs at Kaneka, recommends taking 200mg of ubiquinol daily for two weeks, followed by a maintenance dose of 100mg per day. However, dosages may vary based on individual health situations, so it's always best to consult with your physician.

We offer TrueCoQ10 in both 100mg and 50mg soft gels. By incorporating this vital nutrient into your daily routine, you can support your body's energy production, heart health, antioxidant defense, and overall well-being to help you age gracefully.
