In this week’s episode of the NatureCity Podcast, Carl shares his personal experience with oral probiotics for the mouth and throat areas. If you’re doing the right things, but still not happy with your dental and upper respiratory health, you don’t want to miss this episode.
While we’ve become more familiar with using probiotics to keep a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria in our gut, the mouth area has been largely overlooked. Just like probiotics can benefit the community of organisms living in our intestines (the gut microbiome), there’s an oral microbiome in the mouth that also needs probiotic support.
Two of the most powerful oral probiotics are protective Streptococcus salivarius strains. They are named BLIS K12 and BLIS M18, and were developed by Professor John Tagg, a microbiologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand. In his research, Professor Tagg found that individuals who can naturally produce the beneficial Streptococcus salivarius organisms are less susceptible to oral health problems. Unfortunately, less than 10% of us naturally produce these strains, hence the reason to supplement with BLIS K12 and BLIS M18.
BLIS K12 helps stimulate the immune system to help support upper respiratory (ear, nose, throat) health and help reduce bad breath. BLIS M18 works more directly on dental health, helping to inhibit the formation of dental plaque, which can cause cavities and harm gum health. This can translate into less gum bleeding, and healthier teeth and gums. BLIS 18 can also help neutralize acid that may harm teeth and gums.
To effectively colonize in the mouth, these probiotics should be taken as part of a lozenge that dissolves in the mouth rather than being swallowed as a capsule. NatureCity offers a product called TrueOC, which contains both BLIS K12 and BLIS M18 strains, along with the added benefits of Aloe vera.
In this episode, you’ll hear Carl’s personal story with TrueOC, and how adding it to his daily oral hygiene routine helped elevate his dental health to be the best it’s ever been. We highly recommend TrueOC for both children and adults!
